New company in Vukovar economic zone: “50 employees expected by the end of the year”
“The availability of labor has made Vukovar a favorable place to start work. We have also achieved exceptionally good cooperation with the City of Vukovar, from which we have great support.” – said Dierk Mohr.
The Mayor of Vukovar and his associates visited the newly founded company Walter König Croatia d.o.o., which manufactures metal structures and their parts.
The company was founded at the end of 2020 and currently employs 13 workers. By the end of April, the number of employees is expected to be 25, and by the end of the year, 50.
The company is currently engaged in the production of primarily metal structures for machine cladding, but in the near future it plans to expand production to other products intended for the foreign market.
German investor Dierk Mohr is extremely satisfied with the cooperation with the City of Vukovar. “We decided on Vukovar because it is part of the European Union.” said Mr. Mohr and added that the current demand for their products is greater than the production capacity.
THE CITY ECONOMIC ZONE EMPLOYS ABOUT 500 PEOPLE
Mayor Ivan Penava emphasized that seven years ago the economic zone employed 80 people, and today almost 500. “What we announced is now being realized. 1,000 new jobs have been created, which is 153 more jobs than in January 2020. The Vukovar economy is growing, and the economic zone has changed. Once again, we are sending beautiful messages from Vukovar to the whole of Croatia,” said Penava.
Dino Kalinić from Vukovar replaced his old job at the Mitnica Elementary School with a job as a welder-locksmith at the Walter König company. Dino emphasizes that the working conditions, salary and employers met all his expectations.
EMPLOYEES SATISFIED WITH WORKING CONDITIONS
“My previous job was as a janitor at a school. But I quit and got a job here. The working conditions are better here, as is the salary, and there is also the possibility of bonuses. I would recommend young people, but also all unemployed people, to come and try to get a job here, because we still need a lot of workers.” Another employee, Marko Mikinac, joined the company four months ago and works as a CNC machine programmer. “I am very satisfied with the working conditions, as are my colleagues,” said Marko.
RETURNED TO CROATIA AFTER 33 YEARS
Goran Čuturić, the man on whose initiative the Walter König company was opened in Vukovar and the current plant manager, has returned to Slavonia after 33 years of living and working in Germany. “I left Croatia at the age of 16 and returned after 33 years. Desire and love brought me back to my homeland. An opportunity presented itself to me and I decided to take advantage of it and launch an initiative to open this company in Slavonia. We started working in November 2020 and currently have 13 employees,” said Čuturić.
Deputy Mayor Marijan Pavliček expressed his satisfaction that Vukovar was recognized as a place of quality investment. “We are pleased that these are foreign investors, because we are proving that Vukovar is a desirable investment location. By the end of the year, Vukovar residents and residents of surrounding towns will be employed here with above-average salaries,” said Pavliček.
